I had no idea who The Julie Ruin or Kathleen Hanna were two months ago. I knew who the Riot Grrrls were (to some degree) in the 90’s (aka “my prime”) but have become more acquainted lately through my friend Brenda. So going to the show at the opening night of the TBA festival was a powerfully pleasant surprise. Seriously, this was one of the best shows I’d ever seen, and Kathleen Hanna’s energy and focus left me feeling encouraged and confident. Not really what I’d expected, but very welcome.
