What a difference a few months makes in Portland, and in fact many cities. I was getting used to the speed at which construction happened in Seattle and Los Angeles, and seeing itĀ even more locally, all this Portland growth, is bracing. Portland growth, the increasing construction and renovation, is at the same time an attempt to help the housing shortage and a sometimes jarring reminder of the fact that the only constant is change.
In some ways I lament the gradual loss of the Portland I moved to, and can only imagine how people who’ve been here longer than I feel. At the same time I would imagine that the great many people who depend on the construction field for their livings are grateful for this respite from un and under employment.
