Block 67 by Skylab/LRS Architects (left) and The Fair-Haired Dumbbell (FFA Architecture and Interiors and Guerrilla Development) rise on the Burnside Bridgehead. The land was purchased by the Portland Development Commission in the early 2000’s, then sold in parcels. The exterior skin of the FHD will be interesting – a floral pattern hand painted over synthetic stucco, if approvals are won.
When I first moved to Portland a few years ago I remember visiting the bridgehead. Spare and without much interesting architecture, it also seemed like a quiet space surrounded by the traffic.
The development brings a far more urban feel to the Bridgehead, as it has to much of Portland.
